Solo spot, downstage center

"Island" by Jimmy Buffett and David Loggins
Album: Coconut Telegraph (1981)

Island, I see you in the distance
I feel that your existence
Is not unlike my own
Island, they say no man is like you
They say you stand alone
Sometimes I feel that way too
It's the need for love...
Heart and soul accompaniment
Seems to make me different from you

Chorus:
Well I tried to book passage,
But you have no ports
And I tried to sail in, but your wind and waters
Tore my sails and broke-a my oars

Island, I see you in the moonlight
Silhouettes of ships in the night
Just make me want that much more
Island, I see you in all of my dreams
Maybe someday I'll have the means
To reach your distant shores
When the need for love
Heart and soul accompaniment
No longer makes me different from you

Chorus:
Well I tried to build bridges
But they all fell down
And I've taken to the air on wings of silver
But I always hit the ground

Island, I see you in the moonlight
Silhouettes of ships in the night
Just make me want that much more....

The end of the beginning

This holiday weekend will signify the end of the beginning of summer. Some thoughts:
Someone should tell Wisconsin it's "summer." Still 56-ish during the day...no matter how much sun. Damn it.
By the way, this is what the LYW and I will be up to this weekend. (You've got to do something else with milk besides cheese!)
We will be thinking of all of the men and women, past and present, serving active, retired, or in reserve. We do what we do, because of what they do. God, bless them all. Amen.

I am a Homer

I take pride in pledging allegiance to the home team.

Since moving, I have been totally impressed at how the native folk tailgate. I lucked-up on an opportunity (thanks to my esteemed colleague) to be at Lambeau on a Monday night game. Even at night...cold and rainy...in Wisconsin, the atmosphere rivals Big-10 gamedays. And everytime I go to the ballpark, I appreciate the number of people with grills, the amount local beverages, and other activities taking place.

I am excited to be taking (at least a part of) the Pep Band to the Brewers game tomorrow aft. for our version of a "Band Banquet." Not only is it a day off, but a time to reflect on a nice year of unprecedented success for our teams and greater involvement in our activity than ever.

Countdown check: 14 days and 16 days.

PS: Can you tell that I finally figured this out?

Happy Mothers Day

I spent the day preparing dinner for mothers other than my own with the LYW. We has a nice time with the surrogate family, but I miss having ham, sugar peas, and peach pie, rather than roasted acorn squash, apricot-mango chicken, and bad wine from Wash. state. I was passed (by cell phone) around the Sunday table I prefer, and enjoyed the sense of being there...better than nothing. I was able to thank and talk to the women that have (and continue to) nuture and love me the most.
And by the way, it really warmed up today....we broke 56F! I have forgotten how to sweat.
